Doctor of Pharmacy Experience

An overview of what you can expect both inside and outside the classroom

Doctor of Pharmacy Admissions

There are three distinct entry points toward earning your Doctor of Pharmacy degree depending on your previous education.

High school students can apply to the 0-6 direct entry program. During the first two pre-pharmacy years, you will complete the pre-requisite courses to enter the professional program, without having to re-apply, should you meet all academic criteria.

Transfer students who have earned some college credits and want to complete the remaining prerequisites at ACPHS may enter the first or second year of the pre-pharmacy curriculum.

Students who will have completed all of the pharmacy prerequisites by the time of entry can apply directly into the first professional year (P1) of the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program.

Student Operated Pharmacies Offer Real World Experience
PharmD students at the New York campus have a unique opportunity to get to work before they go to work through the College's two student-operated pharmacies, run exclusively by ACPHS in New York State. College Parkside Pharmacy is situated in Albany's South End and College Hometown Pharmacy is located in Schenectady, New York.

ACPHS PharmD students can choose from more than 600 rotation sites around the world to gain real world experience through the experiential education requirements of the curriculum. Stay local, head out to another part of the country or go abroad.

The College is located in the heart of a healthcare corridor that houses Wadsworth Research Laboratory, Albany Medical Center and the Department of Veterans' Affairs, giving our PharmD students ample opportunities to work in various pharmacy practice settings.

There are also several international rotation sites abroad where students can achieve insights into pharmacy from a different cultural perspective.

Student Experience
ACPHS students enjoy a true college experience within this living-learning, tightly-knit community.

Our campus offers PharmD students plenty of opportunities to get involved in extracurriculars. Compete as a student-athlete in soccer, cross country, track & field or basketball. There are dozens of student clubs you can join from the Dance Team to the Panther Project and also professional organizations such as the American College of Clinical Pharmacy or Industry Pharmacists Organization.

The College is located within walking distance of several restaurants, two hotels, Albany Medical Center and Washington Park. Students can travel around Albany by using the Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) buses, with dedicated stops both on and near campus.

Albany is also located just three hours away from New York City, Boston and Montreal.
