The Office of Research and Scholarly Activity is pleased to announce that four faculty members have recently received funding to initiate new research projects.
The faculty members and projects are listed below:
Professor Michael Kane, Pharm.D., FCCP, BCPS, BCACP
Dr. Kane will conduct a real world observational study to determine the effectiveness and safety of the addition of the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) agonist, weekly exenatide (Bydureon), to basal insulin therapy in the management of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). This project is being funded by AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals.
Professor Tom Lodise, Pharm.D., Ph.D.
Dr. Lodise will study the pharmacokinetics (PK) of Minocin IV in critically-ill patients with gram-negative, pulmonary and/or blood infections in the Intensive Care Unit. Minocycline has a known safety profile, but there are little PK data in critically-ill patients. This project is being funded by Duke University and the National Institutes of Health.
Associate Professor Wendy Parker, Ph.D.
Dr. Parker will explore existing national data on diabetes management, observe local support groups, and through our regional partner at JDRF post information on their Facebook page linking to an online survey for both parents/caregivers and young adults. This project is being funded by The Community Foundation.
Assistant Professor See-won Seo, Pharm.D., BCACP
Dr. Seo will study how to reduce the number of asthma-related hospitalizations, increase the number of "well controlled" patients, and increase the number of symptom-free days in a sample of Hometown Health Center asthma patients during the contract period. This project is being funded by the Whitney M. Young Jr. Health Center, Inc.
