DR. SCARPACE NAMED HEAD OF PHARMACY ASSOC.

Chicago, IL - April 1, 2016 - The Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Association has elected Associate Professor Sarah Scarpace, Pharm.D., MPH, BCOP, to serve as President for the 2016-2017 term. Dr. Scarpace took office at the 12th HOPA Annual Conference held March 16-19 in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Scarpace has served as President-elect of the organization since March 2015. 

“Sarah’s career is filled with numerous accomplishments and contributions to the field of hematology/oncology pharmacy. Since receiving her Pharm.D. in 2002, Sarah has dedicated her career to academia and serving as a mentor and advisor to students entering the profession. Sarah has demonstrated her exceptional leadership skills through her multiple roles at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences,” said Scott Soefje, Pharm.D., MBA, BCOP, FCCP, immediate HOPA past president.

Dr. Scarpace has been a longtime member of HOPA, and her deep involvement with the organization has greatly impacted its growth. Having served as a board member at large and president-elect, Dr. Scarpace's efforts spread far and wide. She has chaired several committees, including Health Policy, Education, and Standards.

Currently, Dr. Scarpace is the Associate Professor at the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. She teaches courses in oncology pharmacotherapy, oncology drug interactions and pharmacogenetics, cancer screening/prevention/early detection, interprofessional health care issues, and foundations of pharmacy. She also practices oncology pharmacy at the St. Peter’s Health Partners Cancer Care Center in Albany, NY.

She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University at Buffalo and a Masters of Public Health from the University at Albany. She completed an oncology pharmacy residency at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo and has been a Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist since 2005.

HOPA is a nonprofit professional organization formed in 2004 to help oncology and hematology pharmacy practitioners and their associates provide the best possible cancer care. HOPA supports research, conducts educational conferences to advance knowledge, encourages professional development and advocates for health policy issues that improve patient care. HOPA has more than 2,500 members and includes oncology pharmacists, as well as pharmacy administrators, researchers, residents, interns and technicians specializing in hematology/oncology practice.
