ALUMNUS FEATURED IN LIFE SCIENCE LEADER

September 1, 2015

Geno Germano '83, Group President of Pfizer's Global Innovative Pharma Business, is featured on the cover of the September issue of Life Science Leader magazine.

In his role with Pfizer, Germano is responsible for recommending whether to invest in the late-stage development for particular drugs, and he has a team that conducts the late state development.

Germano discusses in the article his efforts to "create a culture where every single one of my colleagues thinks of themselves as an innovator."

He expands on that idea by saying that "the concept of innovation is bigger than just R&D for us," pointing out that the unit has also funded innovative projects related to the adoption of new business models and tools used to communicate with key stakeholders.

The approach is clearly working. Pfizer has achieved 16 new product approvals in the past four years. This includes a new oncology drug - FDA-approved for first line treatment of a specific type of breast cancer - and the first meningococcal B vaccine in the United States.
