Panthers made up nearly a third of research participants and walked away with three awards at the second annual Regeneron STEM Poster Showcase, held at Hudson Valley Community College on April 19, 2024.
Twenty-three ACPHS students, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, presented their work at the event to more than 200 high school students, Regeneron researchers, area businesspeople and other scientists. There were about 75 presenters in total, from HVCC, University at Albany, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Union College, Clarkson University and Siena College as well as ACPHS.
Panthers whose work was recognized were:
- Olaoluwa Christopher Tofade won the "Learned Something New" superlative/audience choice award, chosen by high school attendees. His research poster was titled “Comparing the BioFire Pneumonia Panel and conventional respiratory culture to eetect the predominant bacterial and viral isolates causing pneumonia.”
- Diandre Slusarek (pictured above) won Best Poster in the 3rd and 4th Year Undergraduate division for “Understanding the morphological characteristics and mechanisms of antibiotic collateral sensitivity through the evolution of antibiotic-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae.
- Angeleigh Knapp won Best Poster in the Masters' division, for “Characterization of the hyperglycemic shift to necroptosis in differentiated U937 cells.”
