ACPHS RANKED AS THE #1 VALUE-ADDED COLLEGE

November 6, 2015

ALBANY, N.Y. – November 6, 2015 – Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences is the #1 ranked school in the country in a new report from the Brookings Institution that measures the contributions of colleges on their students’ outcomes.

A total of 3,173 two-and-four-year institutions were ranked in the study which ascribes each school a “value-added” score based on the earnings of their alumni. ACPHS received a value-added score of 100, which is the highest possible score.

The rankings appear in a report titled, “Using earnings data to rank colleges: A value-added approach updated with College Scorecard data,” which was published by Brookings on October 29.

The report’s author Jonathan Rothwell writes, “Value-added measures attempt to isolate the contribution of the college to student outcomes, as distinct from what one might predict based on student characteristics or the level of degree offered. It is not a measure of return on investment, but rather a way to compare colleges on a more equal footing, by adjusting for the relative advantages or disadvantages faced by diverse students pursuing different levels of study across different local economies.”

The federal government’s College Scorecard, which was released earlier this year and serves as the basis for the value-added rankings, found that the median salary of ACPHS students ten years after entering school is $110,600. By comparison, the national average is $34,343.

“We are obviously very pleased to be the top ranked value-added college in the country. However, a greater source of pride is the contributions that our graduates make each day in helping people live healthier lives. Our alumni find their calling in applying their quantitative, problem solving skills to address health care problems. Their impact is being felt in communities around the country and across the world,” said ACPHS President Greg Dewey, Ph.D.
