National Mentoring Month 2022

January is National Mentoring Month. It’s a time to honor those who have helped us identify, pursue and achieve our goals. Many alumni are lucky to count our professors at ACP (or ACPHS) as our mentors. Mentors are not just teachers, they are also friends and advisors. They listen and help because they care, and often a mentor has a lasting impact on our lives. For John Cote ’70, Professor Gary Hall ’57 was that person. He recently honored the influence that Professor Hall had on his life by establishing an endowed scholarship in his name. He wrote the following note to his classmates to share the good news.

“You may remember that Prof. Hall was our yearbook's dedicated "pharmacist, professor, and friend," and at our 50th Class Reunion this past October, there was a sentiment to again honor him. To not only recognize his contribution to our time at ACP, but also to recognize the contributions he has made to the College in his retirement.

I therefore endowed the Professor Gary D. Hall Pharmaceutics Scholarship to get the "proverbial ball" rolling so that there would be, in perpetuity, a scholarship in his name to assist Pharm.D. students  who have demonstrated exceptional interest, talent, and pharmacy skills in courses which we more simply knew as Pharmaceutics Lab.”

While more than 50 years has passed since John graduated from ACP, his connection with Professor Hall continues to this day. So much has changed within the profession but caring about students and patients will always be at the heart of what we do and who we are. We are honored that John chose to honor Professor Hall and our students with his gift.
