Interested in supporting our mission but aren’t ready to give a gift today? A simple and flexible way to ensure we can continue our work for years to come is through a gift in your will, known as a charitable bequest. By including a bequest to ACPHS in your will or living trust, you ensure that we can continue our mission for years to come. We offer a free tool to help you write your will in 20 minutes or less and create a legacy gift to ACPHS that will last for generations. Get started here.
The following language may aid you and your attorney in preparing your bequest to ACPHS. Each individual situation is unique and, therefore, these examples include only some of the possible gift opportunities. We encourage you to share your final will provision with ACPHS to ensure that your wishes can be properly followed and recognized.

If, in the judgment of the Foundation Board of Trustees, changed circumstances should, at some future time, render the designated use of this fund impracticable, unwise or inappropriate, then the Board shall use the fund to further the objectives and purposes of the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, giving consideration to my special interest as evidenced by the purpose described above.
Are you passionate about creating a legacy of support for ACPHS that will carry on your values to the next generation? With a beneficiary designation, you can name ACPHS as a beneficiary to receive assets such as retirement plans and life insurance policies. Simply fill out the necessary beneficiary forms provided by your retirement and insurance providers. Not only is it simple, but it’s also flexible—you can review and adjust beneficiary designations anytime you wish.
When you are looking for ways to help the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences with our mission, you shouldn’t feel like you are choosing between your philanthropic goals and financial security. One gift that allows you to support ACPHS’ work while receiving fixed payments for life is through a charitable gift annuity. Not only does this gift provide you with regular payments and allow us to further our work, but you’ll qualify for a variety of tax benefits, including a federal income tax charitable deduction when you itemize.
Looking for a way to give the ACPHS a significant gift? If you have built up a sizable estate and are also looking for ways to receive reliable income payments, you may want to check out the advantages of setting up a charitable remainder trust.
Benefits of a charitable remainder trust include:
- Potential for a partial charitable income tax deduction
- Potential for increased income
- Upfront capital gains tax avoidance
There are two ways to receive payments with charitable remainder trusts.
- Each year, the annuity trust pays you the same dollar amount you choose at the start. Your payments stay the same, regardless of fluctuations in trust investments.
- Each year, the unitrust pays you a variable amount based on a fixed percentage of the fair market value of the trust assets. The amount of your payments is redetermined annually. If the value of the trust increases, so do your payments. If the value decreases, so will your payments.
Do you want to benefit from the tax savings that result from supporting ACPHS, yet you don’t want to give up any assets that you’d like your family to receive someday? You can have it both ways with a charitable lead trust.
There are two ways charitable lead trusts make payments:
- A charitable lead annuity trust pays a fixed amount each year to ACPHS and is more attractive when interest rates are low.
- A charitable lead unitrust pays a variable amount each year based on the value of the assets in the trust. With a unitrust, if the trust’s assets go up in value, the payments to ACPHS will increase as well.
Want to make a transformation gift to ACPHS without touching your bank account? Consider giving the College a donation of real estate to help us continue our work for generations to come. When you give us appreciated property you have held longer than one year, you qualify for a federal income tax charitable deduction and avoid paying capital gains tax. And you no longer have to deal with that property’s maintenance costs, property taxes or insurance.
Another benefit: You don’t have to hassle with selling the real estate. You can deed the property directly to ACPHS or ask your attorney to add a few sentences in your will or trust agreement.
There are many mechanisms to donate real estate including an outright gift, via your will or living trust, through a retained life estate, a bargain sale, or within a trust or annuity.
Please know you may choose to remain anonymous and ACPHS will respect your wishes for privacy.
