For many who choose to pursue pharmacy as a profession, service is at the heart of it. Caring for others, ensuring the health and welfare of their communities is what propels them through their education and career.
Cassandra White ’12 is one of those people. She knew she wanted to be a pharmacist at age 12, but with no pharmacy schools in her home state of Maine at the time, she looked farther afield and found ACPHS.
“The didactic program was challenging, but at the same time, I was able to participate in sports, which was a huge part of my experience,” White said. “I played soccer for a year and basketball for three years. I was on three championship teams. It was incredible.”
After graduating, White knew that she wanted to return to Maine. She did a pharmacy residency at the VA in Augusta, which brought her to Husson University, where she is currently an Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice. In addition to her professional positions, including a clinical practice site at Maine Dartmouth Geriatric Medicine, White also has a passion for service. From 2018-2019 she served as President of the Maine Pharmacy Association. In December 2021, she was appointed to the Maine Board of Pharmacy, the first female in recent history.
“My position is unique, not just being the only female, but also being an ambulatory care pharmacist,” White said. “Being on the board means protecting the wellbeing of the public. I’m able to bring the knowledge and experience of almost 17 years and apply that to modern pharmacy practice in 2022. It’s also helping me to learn and grow as a pharmacist.”
In her free time, White enjoys staying active and traveling. So far, she has visited 41 out of 50 states and hopes to make progress on visiting the rest soon.
