Former Asst. Surgeon General and Chief Pharmacist Officer Appointed to Board of Trustees

Former Assistant Surgeon General and Chief Pharmacist Officer of the U.S. Public Health Service Appointed to Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences’ Board of Trustees

ALBANY, NY – The Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (ACPHS) is pleased to announce that retired Rear Admiral (RADM) Dr. Pamela Schweitzer, Pharm.D. has been appointed to the College’s Board of Trustees.  RADM Schweitzer brings her wide range of pharmacy and healthcare experience back to help advance the College’s mission to educate the next generation of leaders to improve the health of our society.

RADM Schweitzer retired in 2018 following a four-year term as the Assistant Surgeon General and 10th Chief Pharmacist Officer of the United States Public Health Service (PHS). As Chief Pharmacist Officer (and the first female in this role), she was responsible for providing leadership and coordination of PHS pharmacy programs and professional affairs for the Office of the Surgeon General and the Department of Health & Human Services. RADM Schweitzer also serves on the Board of Directors of the National Council for Prescription Drug Program Foundation.

Her extensive experience and commitment to advancing the field of pharmacy are tremendous assets to the College as the role of pharmacists is evolving rapidly,” said Greg Dewey, Ph.D., President of Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.

RADM Schweitzer earned a Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of California and an Ambulatory Care/Administrative Residency from University of California Irvine Medical Center. She earned an honorary degree from ACPHS in 2019.
