ACPHS WELCOMES NEW BOARD MEMBER

Albany, NY – June 7, 2016 – Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (ACPHS) announced today that James E. Dering has been appointed to the College’s Board of Trustees. Mr. Dering is a Partner at Garfunkel Wild, P.C., a law firm specializing in the business and legal needs of clients in the health care industry. 

Mr. Dering joined Garfunkel Wild in 2015 and is a member of the firm’s Health Care; Business; Compliance and White Collar Defense; Discharge Planning, Patient Rights, and Elder Law; Finance and Real Estate; and Litigation and Arbitration practice groups. 

Prior to joining Garfunkel Wild, he served as General Counsel of the New York State Department of Health for nearly five years, and served as the Department’s Deputy General Counsel and Director of the Bureau of House Counsel earlier in his career. As General Counsel, he was the chief legal advisor to the Commissioner of Health and oversaw approximately 125 attorneys and staff.  

Mr. Dering received his B.S. in Business Management from Ithaca College and his J.D., cum laude, from Albany Law School.

Jim’s expertise in health care law through his experiences with the Department of Health and in his current position with Garfunkel Wild will bring a valuable perspective to the Board as we navigate this rapidly evolving landscape.”
