Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences plans to operate a nonprofit pharmacy at Hometown Health Centers' State Street clinic, providing on-site availability of prescription drugs for patients and what may be a unique setting for pharmacy students to gain experience.
The heads of both the college and health center described the partnership — they called it a "collaboratory" — between the two entities as a unique way to benefit both institutions. Nonprofit pharmacies themselves certainly seem to be uncommon. According to a blog called Pharmacy Checker, there are only three in the nation.
