2024 SGA Leadership Recognition Banquet

Award winners at the 2024 Leadership Recognition Banquet

The 2024 Leadership Recognition Banquet was a time to acknowledge accomplishments and celebrate classmates, faculty and staff. The Student Government Association, in conjunction with the Office of Student Engagement and Leadership, gave out 23 awards at the April 18 event at Normanside in suburban Delmar. The evening was filled with good food, friendly faces – and lots of love and support.

This year’s awards went to:

    • Club of the Year: Muslim Student Association
    • Professional Organization of the Year: NASP-SASP 
    • Club Advisor of the Year: Dr. Paul Denvir 
    • Professional Organization Advisor of the Year: Dr. Hillary Matson 
    • Student Commitment Award: Janany Jeyakumar 
    • The Unsung Hero Award - Faculty/Staff: Dr. Courtney Tackes 
    • The Unsung Hero Award - Student: Kelsey Watson 
    • Student Professionalism Award: Manny Deol 
    • Emerging Leader Award: Kacia Scott 
    • Most Involved Student Award: Christina Jung 
    • Leaving A Legacy Award: Diana Byk 
    • Teacher of the Year: Dr. Daniele Leonard 
    • Faculty Advisor of the Year: Dr. Michael Zappone
    • Administrator of the Year: Dr. Lauren Purington 
    • BS Senior Recognition Award: Gabrielle Acosta-Herrera 
    • P3 Senior Recognition Award: SeHan Jeong 
    • SGA President's Award: Kristen Ruby

OSEL also presented a new award this year: the OSEL Panther Pride Five. This award went to five students who have helped advance OSEL’s mission and goals, which include developing leadership, promoting inclusive opportunities and environments, celebrating unique interests and individuals, and maintaining a student-centered focus. Students receiving this award involved themselves in the many opportunities, including serving as orientation leaders, resident assistants, peer mentors and student ambassadors. The students have brought success to their campus clubs and professional organizations, and have advocated on behalf of others as SGA Executive Board and Senate representatives. And overall, these students have created paths for others to follow:
