NYITCOM Agreements Open New Pathways for ACPHS Pre-Med Students

December 14, 2018

New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM) has signed two articulation agreements with ACPHS; the agreements will offer new options for current and prospective ACPHS students seeking a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree.

The “3+4” option with NYITCOM will enable students to earn their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree from ACPHS and their Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree from NYITCOM in a combined seven years. The seven-year total is one less than the eight-year timeframe typically required for earning the two degrees.

Prospective students interested in the Pre-Med/ Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine 3+4 program apply during their senior year of high school. Accepted students will study for three years at ACPHS followed by four years at NYITCOM. Students will earn their B.S. degree from ACPHS after their first year at NYITCOM and their D.O. degree (from NYITCOM) following successful completion of medical school.

ACPHS students who prefer the traditional 4+4 pathway for earning their B.S. and D.O. degrees may participate in the “Early Interview Program.” Those interested in this option will apply to NYITCOM’s D.O. program after their third year at ACPHS. If accepted, they will complete their senior year at ACPHS before enrolling in the D.O. program at NYITCOM.

Regardless of which pathway they pursue, a commitment by a student to enroll in either of these programs represents a binding agreement.

“These agreements with NYITCOM provide prospective and current students interested in medicine with great options to consider for their undergraduate and medical education,” said Betsy Brookins, Ph.D, Director of Pre-Professional Pathways at ACPHS. “ACPHS is an ideal location and provides excellent preparation for students seeking careers in the health professions through our focus on the sciences and human health.”

“We are proud to partner with ACPHS to expand opportunities for medical education, and look forward to guiding these students on the exciting journey to physicianhood,” said Jerry Balentine, D.O., dean NYITCOM, and vice president, Health Sciences and Medical Affairs, NYIT.
