The Student Society of Health-System Pharmacists (SSHP) chapter of the American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists (ASHP) and Student College of Clinical Pharmacy (SCCP) chapter of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) provide pharmacy students with opportunities to advocate, contribute to patient care, participate in professional development and discover health-systems careers.

Each year, the organizations team up to host the Professional Runway Show, a fun way to learn how to present oneself in professional environments. This year’s show featured four student “models” who were critiqued on their professional appearance and responses to fictional ethical dilemmas by three faculty judges. On top of this annual joint event, both organizations provide students many opportunities for professional involvement throughout the school year.
If you’re looking for ways to be involved in direct patient care, the SCCP chapter on campus might be for you. Their ongoing projects include cardiovascular and renal (CaRE) screenings, the Script Your Future (SYF) project, the CaRE for KIDneys project and the Epilepsy project. These projects allow students to interact with patients from various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds and develop leadership skills through their work. The organization also hosts clinical pharmacy challenges to let students practice their skills and prepare for future careers in the pharmacy field.
The SSHP focuses on student awareness of pharmacy practice in health systems, providing information to students about career directions and credentials needed for pharmacy practice in health systems, fostering leadership and career development, and encouraging membership and participation in the student, local, state and national societies. SSHP also collaborates with the New York State Council of Health-System Pharmacists (NYSCHP) and hosts events such as trivia nights, residency prep symposiums, bake sales and clinical skills competitions.
