Cardiology Residency
The PGY2 Cardiology Residency provides unique clinical experiences in cardiovascular care at Capital Cardiology Associates and Albany Medical Center.
Program Overview
The PGY2 Residency Program in Cardiology Pharmacy is a 12-month, full- time curriculum divided into monthly and longitudinal experiences. It is designed to provide you with clinical insights and practical experiences in cardiovascular pharmacotherapy care.
The core learning experiences include a structural heart clinic, cardiac rapid-care unit, pharmacotherapy consult clinic, lipid management clinic, diagnostic test/imaging, cardiac care unit, cardiopulmonary services, academia/teaching and research/scholarship.
The program will prepare you to be an expert on the optimal use of medications used for patients with cardiovascular diseases, with a focus on ambulatory care.
The resident will gain additional training and experience through exposure to a variety of cardiovascular disease states, direct patient care, practice-based research and teaching.

Residency Purpose
PGY2 pharmacy residency programs build on PharmD education and PGY1 residencies to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in specialized areas of practice. PGY2 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge, and incorporating both into the provision of patient care or other advanced practice settings. Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY2 pharmacy residency are prepared for advanced patient care, academic or other specialized positions, along with board certification in cardiology pharmacy (BCCP).
Clinical Learning Experiences
The resident will work with multidisciplinary teams to provide direct patient care. The primary residency activities will take place at Capital Cardiology Associates, Albany Medical Center, Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and St. Peters Health Partners @ Samaritan Hospital.
