We recognized the one-year milestone of our partnership with Western Atlantic University School of Medicine last week by bringing our first cohort of students together with both ACPHS faculty and WAUSM representatives.
The Accelerated Pathway to MD program offers students a fast-tracked route to earn their MD in as few as six years. It provides eligible ACPHS students with a reserved seat in WAUSM’s MD Program, streamlining their journey from undergraduate studies to medical school.
Students begin with full-time undergraduate study at ACPHS, and move to WAUSM’s campus in The Grand Bahamas, and then onto clinical clerkships in the U.S. This allows students to earn a bachelor’s degree and a Doctor of Medicine in six years, with access to personalized instruction, advanced clinical training, and a globally respected medical education.
WAUSM’s Provost and Chief Operating Officer, Dr. Paula Wales and members of the WAUSM team, led a meet and greet session for students to ask questions and talk about their assimilation into the program. ACPHS Professors, Dr. Eric Yager, Dr. Betsy Brookins and Dr. Kelly Hallstrom, as well as Assistant Director of Admissions, Nicoy Pusey, and Assistant VP of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Jonathan Phipps, also attended the gathering which was held in the DEI suite in the College’s Library.

The first ACPHS/WAUSM cohort hails from six countries across the globe, including Algeria, Canada, India, Iraq, United Arab Emirates, and the United States.
There are nine students ¾ seven men and two women ¾ who are currently pursuing the intensive program including Selim Attia, Marion Zoe Etame, Amjed Handahl, Luke John, Devsubhash Samir Mahajan, Grace Manoj, Mohammed Meribout, Abraham Merritt and Jay Meyyan.
The topics discussed at the meeting ranged from academic and pathway queries to student life and dining options. With only a couple of months under their belts in the program, the students were grateful for the time to share their observations and meet the WAUSM team.
