Faculty Research
Through groundbreaking scholarship and collaborative inquiry, ACPHS faculty are shaping the future of science and inspiring the next generation of researchers.
The Impact of Faculty Research at ACPHS
Faculty research is a cornerstone of the academic and scientific community at ACPHS. Guided by a shared commitment to advancing health and improving lives, our faculty lead research efforts that span a wide range of disciplines—from infectious diseases, oncology and nephrology to health outcomes, pharmaceutical sciences and health-care systems research.
This work is more than an academic pursuit. It drives innovation, informs teaching and strengthens the educational experience for our students. Faculty research fuels the discovery of new knowledge, improves clinical practice and contributes solutions to some of the most pressing health challenges facing our world today.
At the department and college levels, research enriches curricula, fosters interdisciplinary collaboration and positions ACPHS as a leader in health-sciences education. Beyond campus, it contributes to the broader scientific community, influences policy and practice, and creates meaningful partnerships with industry, health-care providers and community organizations.
Whether supported through competitive grants, collaborative projects or institutional initiatives, faculty research at ACPHS is essential to our mission and a powerful driver of progress in science, health care and education.

Faculty Research at ACPHS
On-Campus and Regional Labs and Facilities
ACPHS sits at the center of the Capital Region’s medical-research corridor, giving students and faculty access to world-class institutions and cutting-edge resources.
Our partners—including the UAlbany Cancer Center, Albany Med, the Stratton VA, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and the New York State Wadsworth Center—expand opportunities to collaborate, share lab space and engage in research that’s shaping the future of medicine, pharmaceuticals and public health.
Awards and Grants
In the last academic year, our faculty received over $5.3 million dollars in research funding for projects spanning critical areas such as HIV and breast cancer. Among them, Dr. Stacy Pettigrew—associate professor of Environmental Health Sciences and director of The Collaboratory in Albany’s South End—was honored as the 2025 ACPHS Researcher of the Year for her outstanding contributions to community-based public-health research.
Partnerships & Collaborations
ACPHS supports innovation and workforce development through a range of strategic partnerships and collaborations, including the Stack Family Center for Biopharmaceutical Education and Training (CBET); fellowship opportunities with industry leaders such as BeiGene, Curia, Crinetics Pharmaceuticals and the FDA; and the Accelerator for Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences (AMPS), which serves as a medical and pharmaceutical business incubator. Our partnership with Hudson Valley Community College offers their biotechnology graduates a seamless transfer pathway into our bachelor’s and master’s programs in biomanufacturing.
