Politico reported Wednesday that lawmakers collaborated with the state Education Department on a measure that would expand access to birth control for New Yorkers.

Given growing provider shortages and federal activity to repeal reproductive health care rights, the bill (A2514) sponsored by Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences alumni and assemblymember, John T. McDonald ’85, RPh, would authorize pharmacists to administer injections for contraceptive use without a prescription and compensate pharmacists for the services provided.

ACPHS Associate Professor, Jacqueline Cleary, PharmD, BCACP, a pharmacist embedded in the community at Saratoga Community Health Center in Saratoga Springs, is available to help the public understand the significance of this bill and its impact on access to reproductive care in New York.

Dr. Cleary is available on Friday, May 30 for Zoom interviews between 9:30 and 11 am, and 1 – 3 pm. Please contact Kristin Marshall to schedule a time to speak with Dr. Cleary.
