Explore the Admissions Process for Graduate Degree Programs

After reviewing the graduate application process below, the next step is knowing when to apply and reviewing the prerequisite coursework for your program of interest. Scroll down to “Application Dates, Forms, & Prerequisite Coursework” to access that information.

Applicants must have completed, or be on track to complete, all prerequisite coursework before matriculating into a graduate program. A bachelor’s degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) is the minimum requirement for admission.

All graduate programs have different prerequisite course requirements, and some programs have additional test requirements.

Review the sections below for details about the application process, then jump to reviewing application deadlines, forms, and prerequisite coursework.

Current ACPHS students: If you are currently pursuing a degree at ACPHS, email Graduate Admissions for guidance on applying to your program of interest. We ask that you do not apply before connecting with Graduate Admissions.

ACPHS Graduate Admissions will send updates throughout review process with email as the primary form of communication. We recommend checking your spam and promotions folders in your email for any missed messages. Contact Graduate Admissions if you have any questions during the review process.

A complete application will include: submitted application form, transcripts for all post-secondary studies, personal essay, resume/CV, a minimum of two references/letters of recommendation, and select programs have GRE or MCAT exam requirements.

Upon receipt of a complete application, an application will continue to a faculty admissions review committee. After this review, applicants will be informed if they will be invited to a virtual interview. Decisions about an application will be released either after the faculty admissions review process or after the virtual interview. All updates about an applicant’s status will be sent via email.

If an offer of admission is extended to an applicant, their spot in the program will be secured by the payment of a $200 non-refundable enrollment fee.

In addition to submitting an application form, transcripts and testing score reports (if required), the following supporting materials and documents are required to complete an application for review:

  • Official Transcripts can be sent directly to ACPHS using Parchment or the National Student Clearinghouse. Otherwise, ACPHS Admissions should be listed as the recipient if another delivery service is being used. Official transcripts may also be mailed to the following address:

ACPHS Admissions Office
106 New Scotland Avenue
Albany, NY 12208

    • International Academic Qualifications (college/university/post-secondary transcripts or conferred degree): Official transcripts must be submitted directly to ACPHS. An official course-by-course evaluation from a current  NACES member for coursework completed outside of the United States is required and should be submitted electronically to ACPHS.
    • Letters of Recommendation & References: A minimum of two references are required for admission to all programs. Listed references will be prompted to submit a letter of recommendation. Letters should be on company letterhead, and reference’s email should be a work/professional account.
    • Personal Essay describing your interest in the specific master’s degree program at ACPHS.
    • Current resume or curriculum vitae (CV)

Select programs have test requirements for admission. If you are applying for admission with a test score pending, please share your scheduled exam date with Graduate Admissions  or indicate it on your application form.

          • MS Biomedical Sciences: A MCAT or GRE score report is required.
            • GRE results should be sent directly to ACPHS (code 2013) by ETS.
            • MCAT score reports including AAMC ID and authorization code should be sent to admissions@acphs.edu. Instructions about how to send this information can be found at AAMC.org.
          • MS Clinical Laboratory Sciences & MS Cytotechnology & Molecular Cytology: Official GRE (general test) scores are ONLY required of applicants with an undergraduate GPA below 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale). The exam must have been completed within the past five years and results should be sent directly to ACPHS (Code 2013) by ETS.
          • English proficiency exams: This requirement may be waived for applicants who are a US Citizen/US Permanent Resident, are a Canadian citizen, whose native or first-language was English, or who have a minimum of four years of coursework in which English was the primary language of instruction.
            • We recommend that applicants earn a 6.5 IELTS score, an 84   TOEFL score, or a 110 Duolingo score to demonstrate English language proficiency, but applicants are still able to apply if they have received a lower score.

Applicants requiring an F-1 student visa to study in the US will need to be issued an I-20 form from ACPHS.

The following programs are not eligible for I-20 issuance: MS Biomedical Sciences (Online), MS Biotechnology (Hybrid), MS Cytotechnology & Molecular Cytology (Hybrid), MS Health Data Science.

In addition to the above-mentioned application materials, international applicants are required to submit the following:

          • Proof of English proficiency. Note: this requirement is waived for US citizens/permanent residents, Canadian citizens, and applicants who have four years of completed coursework where English was the primary language. If you do not meet one of these requirements, please submit an official score report from one of the following test centers/organizations. If you have taken one of these exams and scored lower than the listed minimum, you are still welcome to apply.

You will be required to upload a bank statement/financial document confirming this information.   This form will be accessible only after you have submitted an application. If you are unable to meet this requirement, your application will be withdrawn from consideration.

Additional considerations for international applicants: An I-20 form will only be issued to applicants who meet the following criteria:

            • Are accepted to a program of study
            • Commit to ACPHS by paying the $200 non-refundable enrollment fee
