ACPHS, LECOM Sign Three New Articulation Agreements

December 7, 2018

ACPHS has signed three articulation agreements with Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) that will create a variety of additional pathways for current and prospective ACPHS students to earn degrees in the fields of medicine or dentistry.

The “3+4” and “4+4” program options will enable students to earn their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree from ACPHS and their Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree from LECOM in a total of seven or eight years. The duration of the combined program is determined by the student at the time of application.

Students who pursue the 3+4 option will study three years at ACPHS followed by four years at LECOM. They will earn their B.S. degree from ACPHS after their first year at LECOM and their D.O. degree (from LECOM) following successful completion of medical school. The seven-year total is one less than the eight-year timeframe typically required for earning the two degrees.

Those who choose the 4+4 option will earn their B.S. degree after four years of study at ACPHS before going to LECOM for their four years of medical school.

A separate 4+4 agreement with LECOM’s School of Dental Medicine provides an eight-year pathway for students to earn their B.S. degree from ACPHS and their Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) from LECOM.

“Through academic programs grounded in the sciences and centered on human health, ACPHS provides excellent preparation for students seeking careers in the health professions,” said Betsy Brookins, Ph.D., Director of Pre-Professional Pathways at ACPHS. “These agreements with LECOM provide ACPHS students interested in the fields of medicine and dentistry with several strong options to consider as they plan for their future education.”

ACPHS students who wish to pursue either of the 4+4 programs (osteopathic or dental medicine) have until February 1 of their sophomore year to apply. Those interested in the 3+4 B.S./D.O. program must apply by February 1 of their first year at ACPHS. High school seniors may also apply for these combined degree programs at the time of application to ACPHS. A commitment by a student to enroll in any of these programs represents a binding agreement.

For additional information about these agreements, the application process, or program requirements, students are encouraged contact Betsy Brookins, Ph.D., Director of Pre-Professional Pathways at ACPHS (518-694-7240; elizabeth.brookins@acphs.edu).
