Africana Film Series - Gurumbé: Afro-Andalusian Memories (the African roots of Spanish flamenco)

Our first film shows the unacknowledged African roots of Spanish flamenco, one of the many erasures needed to maintain Europe’s long history of imagining itself as culturally separate from Africa. 

After the film, there will be a showing of "Four Years--Crossing Africa by Bike" (photo slideshow with music) followed by a short period for questions.
