DEI Update--July 21, 2022

ACPHS Creates an Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

July 21, 2022

Dear ACPHS Community,

I write to provide an update on our important and ongoing efforts to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) within our campus community.

Last year, the Coalition for Change prepared a report that included a plan of action to create a more inclusive culture at ACPHS. The Coalition emphasized the goal of this work is to motivate transformative outcomes that improve the educational, professional, and personal growth and success of our students and community.

The report recommended the creation of an Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and I’m very pleased to share that we have created an Associate Vice President role to lead the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. With the comprehensive search process now underway, we are in the process of identifying a representative search committee to lead our recruitment efforts. We look forward to providing further updates about the Office once the position has been filled. The DEI Office will be located in the Library, Suite 306 (formerly the Writing Center) and will include a lounge area.  The Writing Center will utilize existing tutoring space in the Library to serve our students.

I’d like to extend my gratitude to my colleagues John Felio, Vice President of Student Affairs; Anuja Ghorpade, Dean and Vice President of Academic Affairs; and Sue Karavolas, Vice President of Human Resources, for their ongoing collaboration to lead the establishment of the DEI Office.

In addition to the work underway to establish the DEI office, the President’s Cabinet has recently completed DEI Leadership Readiness Training presented by Tangible Development, and this fall, we will engage ACPHS leadership in the Leadership Readiness Training to continue to engage our community in this critical dialogue.

I’d like to thank members of the Coalition for Change for their service in advancing the College's efforts to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within our community; and I look forward to working with the entire ACPHS Community as we develop and support a more inclusive culture to address the evolving, critical needs of our campus community.

Sincerely,

Toyin Tofade
President
