The Peer Tutoring Program provides academic assistance that encourages, promotes, and fosters independent learning skills.
Peer tutoring is available for the majority of courses in the first and second professional years (P1 and P2) of the Pharm.D. program. On the Vermont Campus, peer tutoring takes place in the Information Commons.
Tutoring occurs in individual and small group settings to emphasize the rich value of cooperative learning and reinforce time management skills. Tutors are current ACPHS students who have already taken the course, have been approved by a faculty member, and have received CRLA certified training (see below).
In some cases, distance tutoring (Movi, Lync, and Skype) may be utilized if a Peer Tutor is not available on campus for a specific subject.
Peer Tutoring is available on a by-appointment or drop-in basis. Appointments must be made 24 hours in advance; students do not need to schedule an appointment for drop-in hours.

WHAT is CRLA CERTIFIcation?
The training provided to ACPHS Peer Tutors is compliant with the College Reading and Learning Association’s (CRLA) International Tutor Training Certification Program. You will see “Level 1 Certified” or “Level 2 Certified” next to a tutor’s name on our scheduling website if they have achieved CRLA certification.
Peer Tutors may become certified as a Level 1 tutor by participating in at least 10 hours of training that covers a wide range of tutoring topics, and by accumulating at least 25 hours of hands on tutoring experience in a calendar year. To become Level 2 Certified, Level 1 tutors must pursue in-depth training and additional experience.
