Financial Expert Hugh Johnson to Deliver 2009 Commencement Address
ALBANY,
N.Y. - April 27, 2009 – President James J. Gozzo,
Ph.D., announced that Hugh Johnson, the Chairman and Chief Investment Officer
of Johnson Illington Advisors, has agreed to serve as the 2009 commencement
speaker.
Mr. Johnson, who is also a member of the College’s Board of Trustees,
is nationally recognized for his forecasts on the economy, interest rates
and the stock market. Media outlets that include BusinessWeek, CNBC, CNN,
The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal often look to him for commentary
on major economic issues and trends. Prior to founding Johnson Illington Advisors
15 years ago, Mr. Johnson served as First Albany Corporation’s Chief
Investment Strategist and Chief Economist; he was with First Albany for more
than 25 years.
“I would like to thank the entire ACPHS community for the honor of addressing
this year’s graduating class,” said Mr. Johnson. “Employment
forecasts remain solid for much of the health care field despite the challenges
the country is facing. As in years past, I believe that the 2009 graduates
from Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences will find strong demand
from prospective employers as they embark on their chosen career paths.”
“In the current economic climate, few if any individuals, can bring
the perspective to the commencement ceremony that Mr. Johnson can offer through
his combination of 40 years of investment experience and his knowledge of
this institution as a member of the Board of Trustees,” said President
Gozzo. “We all look forward to what will certainly be a most timely
address.”
ACPHS will hold its 129th commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 9 at 2:00
p.m. at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center.
