Leadership Development

The Office of Student Engagement & Leadership (OSEL) serves as the College resource for student leadership training and development, as well as the hub for a multitude of leadership opportunities. Based on the Albany Campus, OSEL provides the following programs and services:

  • Selection and training of the Orientation Planning Committee and Orientation Leaders who provide the first overview of college processes and resources to new students
  • Organizing a Leadership Retreat for Albany and Vermont students who serve in leadership roles in ACPHS clubs and organizations
  • Instruction of a First-Year Leadership Seminar for aspiring leaders to develop personal connections at the College, increase knowledge of leadership language and practices, and to explore pathways to apply for future leadership opportunities
  • Hosting a Clubs & Organizations Fair on the Albany Campus in September as the first showcase of opportunities for involvement and leadership
  • Overseeing the College's main governing body for students - the Student Government Association (SGA) - as they provide a forum on both campuses for student voice and action with monthly meetings open to the College, as well as focused committees and interest groups. SGA oversees elections for all class years, including the graduate programs.
  • Providing guidance for the student Programming Board and class programming leaders in organizing, planning, and hosting activities and events on both campuses to engage students and student leaders within the community
  • Planning and hosting the Albany Campus’ annual Community Service Day to engage students in providing service leadership on campus and out in the community
  • Leading ongoing trainings, development sessions, and activities to help aspiring, new, and experienced leaders gain new skills and increase their awareness with leadership topics
  • Advising student editors of the College’s yearbook, Alembic Pharmakon, as they work to design, photograph, assemble, and lay out the content from both campuses into a unified annual publication
