Health Services
Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences believes that quality, accessible health care is essential to our students. Health services are provided to students on each campus as follows:
Albany Campus
ACPHS, Albany Medical College, and Albany Law School and ACPHS share a Student Health Center (SHC) located at 25 Hackett Boulevard. The Health Center is on the first floor of the Albany Medical Center South Campus building (directly across the street from South Hall). A portion of the facility is set aside specifically and exclusively as the SHC for students at the three institutions.
The SHC is run by Albany Medical Center (AMC) staff and offers easy access to our students, the ability of its staff to make referrals to other AMC specialists, and is located in the same building as some auxiliary services (e.g., x-rays), thereby limiting the need for students to travel to other locations.
The SHC is open and available to students Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m. Practitioners are also available by phone 24 hours a day at (518) 264-0900. Students must call to make an appointment to be seen.
Students insured through the College's CDPHP insurance will be charged a $25 co-pay to be seen by a doctor, with any other services rendered being billed at their specific costs to CDPHP. Students insured through other providers will have their insurance provider billed for an office visit, consistent with the benefit plan provided. Students will not be required to pay for services at the time they are rendered. SHC will file the necessary claims with insurance providers. Students will be responsible for payments of any balances due after the insurance provider’s payment. Students are asked to bring their ACPHS picture ID and their insurance card with them to every visit. This will help protect against identity theft and ensure eligibility.
Vermont Campus
Fletcher Allen Health Care (FAHC) provides medical/physician services to ACPHS-VT students as part of their Health Center Fee. This fee is mandatory for all ACPHS-VT students.
The Fletcher Allen Health Care Department of Family Medicine (Colchester Family Practice) provides “acute care” to students enrolled at the Vermont Campus. These services are provided at no additional fee for ACPHS-VT students. Acute medical care includes any services routinely provided in a medical office setting for conditions such as: urinary tract infections, rash, upper respiratory infections, lacerations, febrile illness, sprains, headache, sore throat, nausea and dizziness.
The costs of needed medication, medical testing, vaccinations, emergency room visits, hospital care and/or mental health treatment are not covered by this service. The student is responsible for payment, through health insurance or otherwise, for any non-acute care received at Fletcher Allen including, but not limited to x-rays, diagnostics, cultures, and lab services.
It is understood that additional clinical services may be required for the diagnosis or treatment of a student’s medical condition. The students will be referred to an appropriate practitioner by an FAHC provider. These practitioners may or may not be members of FAHC, and health insurance coverage may be required by these providers at time of treatment or consultation.
In addition to the FAHC Colchester Family Practice location, urgent care is available in Fletcher Allen’s Walk-In Center on the Fanny Allen Campus at 790 College Parkway in Colchester. No appointments are necessary at this location.
NOTE: Students should identify themselves as ACPHS-VT students and show their Student ID Cards and insurance cards when arriving.
