Health and Safety
As an institution committed to the advancement of health, the College places a priority
on the health and safety of our students. ACPHS offers a variety of programs and
services to help ensure each student’s physical and mental well being.
Health and Insurance Services
Through its medical partners, the College provides routine
health services to students on both the Albany and Vermont campuses as part
of the infirmary fee. To further ensure student health, ACPHS requires all full-time
students to have health coverage, and for those who are not covered by a family
health insurance plan or private insurer, there is a
quality, low-cost plan offered by the College.
Counseling Services
The on-campus
Counseling
Center offers free wellness and mental health services to students and their
families, as well as faculty and staff. Services include individual, group and family
therapy for issues such as mood and anxiety disorders; adjustment and interpersonal
problems; stress related difficulties and eating disorders.
Fitness Center
Students may maintain their health in the 5,000 square foot
Fitness Center on the Albany Campus which includes free weights, strength
machines, cardio equipment and a dance/aerobics room. Students on the Vermont Campus
enjoy membership at a local sports club.
Healthy Eating
Beginning in fall 2010, the College will be working with a new food service provider
on its Albany Campus who will be taking steps to broaden the number of healthy food
options in the cafeteria, ensuring a wider selection of nutritious snacks and meals.
Campus Safety
University Heights Public Safety (UHAPS) provides the
public safety services for the College. This service is seven days a week,
24 hours a day, 365 days a year. UHAPS consists of uniformed officers and supervisors
who patrol the grounds of the College. Blue Light emergency telephones and an electronic
emergency notification system add an additional layer of safety.
