Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Hires Jose Rodriguez for New Position of Vice President of Campus Life and Global Initiatives

ALBANY, N.Y. – August 3, 2011 – James J. Gozzo, Ph.D., President of Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, announced today that Jose Rodriguez, Ed.D., has been hired for the newly created position of Vice President of Campus Life and Global Initiatives.

“Over the past decade, our student body has more than doubled, with a total of 1,800 students now enrolled on our campuses in Albany and Vermont. As we grow, it is critical that we continue to provide these students with the resources and support they need to be successful,” said President Gozzo. “Under Dr. Rodriguez’s leadership, I am confident in our ability to not only meet the needs of our students today, but to anticipate their needs in the future.”

Dr. Rodriguez will oversee the Division of Campus Life and Global Initiatives which will include student activities, residence life, athletics and recreation, health and wellness, intercultural affairs and diversity, student orientation, student government association, and student conduct. He will also coordinate the College’s global outreach efforts, including international student programs.

Dr. Rodriguez joins ACPHS with more than 30 years of experience working with students, having served most recently in the role of Associate Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students at St. John’s University in Queens, New York. Dr. Rodriguez worked at St. John’s for the past 25 years, and prior to that, he was at Manhattan College.

On his approach to working with students, Dr. Rodriguez says, “I believe that if you want to make a difference, you can. Some students may face a challenge and say, ‘I can’t do that.’ I look at them and say, ‘But what if you could?’ I see my responsibility as identifying a student’s potential and then helping them develop a plan to realize that potential.”
